How long does an e-bike last? – Life expectancy

An e-bike is not only a modern means of transport, but also an investment in mobility, health and sustainability. This makes the question all the more important: How long does an e-bike really last? And what can you do to extend its life?

In this article, you will learn everything you need to know about the durability of the motor, battery, frame and other components – and how AureusDrive impresses with proven technology and service-friendly design.

The lifespan of an e-bike – what you can expect

A well-maintained e-bike lasts on average 6 to 7 years or 30,000 to 50,000 km. The exact lifespan depends on several factors:

  • Quality of the components
  • Maintenance & care
  • Riding style & area of use
  • Weather conditions and storage

Components in detail – and how long they last

Battery:

Most e-bike batteries can handle between 500 and 1,000 charging cycles, which corresponds to approximately 25,000 to 60,000 km. After that, the range decreases noticeably.

AureusDrive advantage:

Our batteries are durable and easy to replace thanks to Samsung cells. We also offer replacement batteries and installation by our partners – quickly and easily.

Motor:

A high-quality e-bike motor usually lasts up to 30,000 km or longer with regular use and maintenance. In many cases, the entire motor is replaced when it breaks down – which is quick but not very sustainable.

AureusDrive advantage:

At AureusDrive, we rely on low-maintenance motors that do not need to be completely replaced in the event of a breakdown. Our technology allows the motor to be opened and repaired so that only defective parts need to be replaced.

This is more resource-efficient, cost-effective and significantly more environmentally friendly than a complete replacement – and meets our standards for long-lasting mobility.

Frame & mechanics:

The standard frame of an e-bike is made of high-quality aluminium – stable, rust-free and virtually maintenance-free. It will last for many years – even with daily use. Even under heavy loads, e.g. from trailers or heavy bags, the frame remains dimensionally stable and reliable.

The mechanical components such as tyres, brakes, gears, chain or belt drive are very similar to classic bicycle parts – they are subject to natural wear and tear, but can be easily replaced.

AureusDrive advantage:

With AureusDrive, you get a 5-year warranty on your frame. Our e-bikes are deliberately simple and clearly designed – without unnecessarily complex special solutions. This means:

  • Shorter service times
  • Easy replacement parts procurement
  • No commitment to brand-specific workshops

Thanks to our open system architecture, non-brand-specific workshops can also carry out repairs and services – ideal if you need help quickly or there is no AureusDrive partner in the immediate vicinity.

This makes our models particularly suitable for everyday use, long-term maintenance and upgrading – in line with sustainable use.

Maintenance: Good maintenance means longer riding:

Regular maintenance of your e-bike will significantly extend its service life. Here are a few tips:

  • Regular cleaning, especially after rain or winter rides
  • Lubricate or have the chain or belt checked
  • Do not store the battery in cold conditions for long periods
  • Annual service – ideally at a specialist dealer

When is it worth replacing?

Even with a durable e-bike, there will come a time when individual components need to be replaced or the entire bike needs to be renewed:

  • Battery: If the range decreases significantly or more than 800 charging cycles have been reached
  • Motor: In the event of persistent loss of performance or mechanical defects
  • Mechanics: In the event of heavy wear on brakes, belts, chain, gears or tyres
  • Technology: If new models are significantly more efficient, comfortable or safer

AureusDrive advantage:

Instead of disposing of your old e-bike, you can trade it in for an attractive offer. Our trade-in offer allows you to benefit from a fair trade-in value when purchasing a new AureusDrive model. This saves you money and is also sustainable.

Ask your nearest AureusDrive dealer about the current trade-in programme for used e-bikes.
