Experience report on the AureusDrive Power45 – over 2,500 km on the road
My name is Dimitri Krayenbühl, I am 19 years old, I am a second-semester mechanical engineering student at ETH Zurich, and I have been skiing cross-country intensively for over two years. In addition to sport, my daily commute between my place of work and my place of study is an important constant in my everyday life. For this, I have been using the AureusDrive Power45 for over a year, with which I have already covered more than 2,500 kilometres.
In this article, I will show you how I experienced this and share my impressions with you.
2,500 km experience report from 23 September 2025
After more than 2,500 kilometres with the AureusDrive Power45, I would like to share my personal experiences. The S-Pedelec accompanies me almost daily on my commute to ETH Zurich – in sunshine, cold weather and sometimes even in the rain. During this time, I have not only got to know the bike, but also valuable routines that make my daily commute easier.
Purchase costs – a worthwhile investment
At first glance, the price of an e-bike seems high. But for commuters, the investment quickly pays for itself: an annual travel pass for the Uster–Zurich route costs around CHF 2,000. This means that the e-bike pays for itself in less than three years – and also offers flexibility, time savings and a positive effect on health.
Clothing and comfort in cold weather
On cold days, gloves and a scarf are essential for me – otherwise my hands, throat and neck cool down the fastest.
My tip: a scarf that can be pulled over the back of the head protects the neck particularly effectively.
For the upper body, several thin layers that can be put on or taken off flexibly have proven to be effective. For visibility in winter, I also use a reflective vest – important in fog, darkness or at high speeds.
Rain? Better to take the train
As enthusiastic as I am about e-bikes, I switch to the train when it rains heavily. Despite wearing rain gear, you quickly get soaked because of the speed – and continuous rain isn’t ideal for the battery either. Fortunately, days like that are rare.
Unexpected bonus: a stronger immune system
A surprising side effect: since I’ve been using the e-bike, I’ve been sick much less often. I didn’t even have a cold this winter.
My explanation: daily exercise in the fresh air strengthens the body – and at the same time, you avoid the crowded, often virus-ridden trains during rush hour.
Technical impressions
I was particularly impressed by the well-designed power switch with integrated mechanical braking function. This is a valuable feature, especially on long descents, as the brakes on a heavy S-pedelec are subject to greater stress.
In over 2,500 kilometres, there was only one technical problem, which was easily fixed under warranty. Kudos to the friendly team at the Aureus branch in Wetzikon.
Safety and practical extras
A few things I can recommend to every Power45 rider:
- Lock set – combination of frame lock and mortise lock (one key for both). The frame lock is permanently mounted, so you’ll never forget it at home.
- Smartphone holder – perfect for navigation in unfamiliar areas without having to stop constantly.
- Luggage rack bag – my personal comfort gain: no more sweaty back like with a rucksack.
These accessories are available directly from the AureusDrive online shop or in-store.
Conclusion: The Power45 as a reliable commuting partner
After more than 2,500 kilometres, I can say that the AureusDrive Power45 is a reliable, powerful and well-designed speed pedelec that has proven itself in everyday use. For commuters, it offers a long range, enormous time savings and real riding pleasure. Added to this is the friendly support provided by AureusDrive – a plus point that is often hard to find with big brands.
