Tips for correct e-bike winter storage
How to keep your bike fit for spring
Winter is approaching and it’s time to store your e-bike safely. With the right care and preparation, your e-bike will be optimally protected and can get going again in spring. Here are the most important tips for winterizing your e-bike properly and preventing damage.

1️⃣ Battery – protecting the heart of the e-bike
The battery is the most sensitive component of your e-bike and deserves special attention.
- Monitor the charge level: Keep the charge level between 40% and 60% / 2-3 bars.
Avoid both a full charge and a deep discharge. Note that the battery discharges itself by around 3-5% per month.
- Storage temperature: Store the battery in a dry place at temperatures between 12 and 20 degrees ( ideally at room temperature). Extreme cold or heat can damage the battery.
- Regular check: Check the charge status every 45 days and recharge if necessary to prevent a deep discharge <20 % / 1 bar.
2️⃣ Cleaning – cleanliness protects against damage
Thorough cleaning before the winter break is essential to remove dirt and salt residues that can cause corrosion.
- Remove dirt and road salt: Clean the e-bike thoroughly with a damp cloth or water jet (do not use a high-pressure cleaner!).
- Drying: Dry the bike completely to avoid moisture and watch out for condensation, especially in damp rooms.
3️⃣ Maintenance – Maintaining mechanical parts
Well-maintained mechanical components increase the service life of your e-bike.
Professional service: Have your e-bike checked by a specialist dealer before the winter break in order to rectify any signs of wear or defects at an early stage. Book a service with an expert here.
Chain and moving parts: Lubricate the chain and all moving parts with a suitable lubricant to prevent rust.
Tire care: Pump the tires to 4 bar to prevent deformation during storage.
4️⃣ Storage – protection from moisture and frost
The right location and suitable storage will ensure that your e-bike survives the winter break undamaged.
Choice of location: Store your e-bike in a dry, frost-free place – ideally indoors.
If available – protective cover: Use a breathable tarpaulin to protect the bike from dust and moisture.
5️⃣ After the winter break – a fit start to the new season
Before the e-bike is used again, it is advisable to have it checked by a specialist dealer if you did not have it checked in winter. Brakes, gears and electronics should be checked to ensure that everything is working properly. This way, nothing stands in the way of a safe start to the new season!
These tips will keep your e-bike well protected and ready for many carefree kilometers in spring.
